Try 740 and above, out of a possible 850. Unfortunately, that figure, from a study by mortgage-info firm Zillow.com, relegates a lot of would-be borrowers to the sidelines. Zillow says just 40.3% of Americans have such enviable scores. The industry has tightened up — in 2010, bottom-rate loans required a score of 720, a threshold met by 47% of potential applicants.

menhouse_sellingpix_450realestate.msn.com - Home prices are continuing to rise, showing a 6.6% annual increase in the past year, the largest gain since July 2006, according to new figures from Zillow.

The Zillow Home Value Index rose 0.4% from July to August, to $162,100, according to the August Zillow Real Estate Market Reports, bringing it to the level of September 2004. Zillow predicts home values will rise an additional 5.2% by next August.

money.cnn.com - Homeowners can compare costs of similar remodeling jobs based on the size and type of the room, where they live and the materials they want to use with a new tool from real estate web site Zillow.

Called Zillow Digs, the free web service and app allows users to select the rooms they want to redo, the styles they want -- such as modern, Mediterranean, art deco -- and how much they want to spend. The site then returns a series of photos of real renovations that fit those criteria with estimates that are based on an algorithm that takes into account rates from local contractors, as well as material costs and regional labor rates. dsnews.com - Home values still rose into November, marking more than a year of monthly price gains, while national rents fell flat, according to data from Zillow.

On a monthly basis, home values inched up by 0.6 percent from October, with the Zillow Home Value Index at $156,200 for November. For 13 straight months now, prices have displayed monthly gains. Compared to November 2011, home values have increased by 5.2 percent, which is the biggest yearly gain since August 2006.
