inman.com - Existing-home sales and prices posted strong year-over-year gains in February, while inventory remained tight but eased slightly, according to a monthly report released today by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).

Existing homes, which include single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.98 million during February, up 0.8 percent from January and 10.2 percent from a year ago. That's the fastest pace of sales since November 2009 when the first-time homebuyer tax credit boosted purchases.

money.cnn.com - Sales of previously owned homes reached an annual rate of nearly 5 million in February, the strongest pace in more than three years.

The report Thursday from the National Association of Realtors was the latest sign of a housing recovery that has become a major positive force for the economy.

The February rate of 4.98 million homes was up 10% from a year earlier, although it was only 1% higher than the revised January pace.

It was the highest level since November 2009, when home buying tax credits were in effect, and sales spiked to 5.44 million.

reuters.com - The National Association of Realtors said on Thursday its Pending Home Sales Index, based on contracts signed in October, gained 5.2 percent to 104.8.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected signed contracts, which usually become sales after a month or two, to rise 0.8 percent last month.

money.cnn.com - The pace of sales for previously owned homes rose in October, despite the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, in the latest sign of improvement for the long-battered housing market.

Existing home sales rose to an annual rate of 4.79 million, seasonally adjusted, the National Association of Realtors reported on Monday. That's up 2.1% from September, when the revised annual rate of existing home sales was 4.69 million. And it's an increase of 11% year-over-year, when the annual rate was 4.32 million.

money.cnn.com -- The pace of previously owned home sales slowed slightly in September, even as the long-battered housing market showed signs of a broader recovery.

Sales of existing homes sold at an annual rate of 4.75 million, according to a closely watched reading reported Friday from the National Association of Realtors. It was off slightly from the 4.83 million pace the previous month, but up 11% from a year earlier. Despite the slip, September's pace was the second best in more than two years, trailing only the strong August reading.

CNNmoney.com - The Census Bureau said housing starts and permits rose substantially in August. Separately, sales of previously occupied homes climbed 7.8% from a year ago, according to the National Association of Realtors.

Builders started on new homes at an annual rate of 750,000, up 29.1% compared with a year earlier. They applied to build another 803,000 new homes on an annual basis, a 24.5% jump compared with August 2011.

realtor.org – New survey findings, combined with an analysis of historic credit scores and loan performance, show home sales could be notably higher by returning to reasonably safe and sound lending standards, which also would create new jobs, according to the National Association of Realtors®.

Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, said there would be enormous benefits to the U.S. economy if mortgage lending conditions return to normal.  “Sensible lending standards would permit 500,000 to 700,000 additional home sales in the coming year,” he said.  “The economic activity created through these additional home sales would add 250,000 to 350,000 jobs in related trades and services almost immediately, and without a cost impact.”
