The housing market has been undergoing significant improvements in the past year, and that trend is reflected in a variety of ameliorating real estate statistics, including the still-growing number of home sales.

The number of pending home sales seen through the end of May increased 6.7 percent from April and 12.1 percent on an annual basis, bringing the current level seen nationwide to its highest point since December 2006, just prior to the start of the housing meltdown beginning in earnest, according to the latest Pending Home Sales Index from the National Association of Realtors.

reuters.com - The National Association of Realtors said on Thursday its Pending Home Sales Index, based on contracts signed in October, gained 5.2 percent to 104.8.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected signed contracts, which usually become sales after a month or two, to rise 0.8 percent last month.

realtytimes.com - It was good news this past week for housing when data for pending home sales showed an unexpected jump in May.

According to the National Association of Realtors, pending homes sales, which represents the number of contracts signed, increased 5.9% to 101.1 from 95.5 in April. Construction Spending also rose 0.9% in May, according to the Commerce Department, which was the biggest gain since December. While some area markets are stabilizing, S&P/Case-Shiller Index of Property Values showed that the decline in home prices during the month of April was at the lowest since November, 2010. Home prices are still down even as the housing market sees some improvement.

WASHINGTON (April 26, 2012) – Pending home sales increased in March and are well above a year ago, another signal the housing market is recovering, according to the National Association of Realtors®.

The Pending Home Sales Index,* a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, rose 4.1 percent to 101.4 in March from an upwardly revised 97.4 in February and is 12.8 percent above March 2011 when it was 89.9.  The data reflects contracts but not closings.

The index is now at the highest level since April 2010 when it reached 111.3.

Realtor.org - Pending home sales are on an upward trend, which has been uneven but meaningful since reaching a cyclical low last April, and are well above a year ago, according to the National Association of Realtors®.

The Pending Home Sales Index, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, rose 2.0 percent to 97.0 in January from a downwardly revised 95.1 in December and is 8.0 percent higher than January 2011 when it was 89.8. The data reflects contracts but not closings.
