While the cost of remodeling projects rose across the board from the previous year, estimated value to the home rose for only half the jobs, the report found.

The Remodeling 2015 Cost vs. Value Report found that the overall cost-value ratio for remodeling jobs ended two years of gains by slipping to 62.2% for 2015, a 3.9-point drop from 2014. Members of the National Association of REALTORS® filled out a survey estimating the resale value of 36 popular remodeling projects in 102 cities.

Ikea surveyed Americans 24-54 years old who earn at least $35,000 annually and found that these areas were among the most important: living rooms, kitchen storage, energy-saving appliances, solar, more bedroom space, wired kitchen for TV and computers, and recycling.

The 30-year fixed mortgage rate plummeted on Wednesday from 4.24 percent to 4.12 percent, where rates have continued to hover into this week.

The 30-year fixed mortgage rate peaked on Wednesday at 4.28 percent before falling to 4.20 percent over the weekend.
