John Schellenberger

Realtor Associate

After more than thirty years as a Certified Financial Planner in Northern California, John Shellenberger moved to Montana to experience the pleasures of outdoor life at the doorstep of Yellowstone. He enjoys the people of Montana, their adventurous spirit and their mountainous surroundings.
In his practice as a Financial Planner, John has helped clients with implementation of Charitable Remainder Trusts and 1031 exchanges as a means of deferring taxes and generating income, funded with proceeds from sales of appreciated real property. John has helped clients to achieve their financial planning goals, including planning for retirement, development of securities portfolios, estate planning and meeting insurance objectives. John moved to Bozeman in 2008 and seeks to match buyers with sellers of ranch and luxury resort properties. John attempts to discover the criteria and objectives of buyers in finding the right property for their needs and to narrow down the choices before wasting time looking at properties that are unsuitable. His approach to his clients, whether buyers or sellers, is to insure they have full disclosure of all meaningful information before entering into a transaction.
Born and raised in New Jersey, John attended college in Pennsylvania and then headed west for graduate school and early employment, including an eight-year stint as Projects Administrator for the Golden Gate Bridge district, supervising the application of Federal funds for development of a bus and ferry transportation system.
An enthusiastic skier, hiker and backpacker, John has hiked extensively in the backcountry of Yellowstone, in the Wind River Range and in the Gallatin Range south of Bozeman. An active Rotarian, he has participated in Rotary projects in Mexico, Ecuador and the Philippines. John is Conservation Chair for Sacajawea Audubon Society and is a member of the Gallatin Fair Board and the Gallatin County Historical Society. He also serves as Treasurer of the Bridger Canyon Property Owners Association.
John and his wife Carol are parents to their two adult children who often visit from their homes in Washington state. They will celebrate their golden Wedding Anniversary in June. Their two black Labradors have replaced their children for constant attention.
